How To Land At A Fast-Paced Startup
Landing your first job with a startup can be daunting. Wes Kao offers her top tips for those wanting to apply for a job at a startup or simply learn more about what it takes to be successful.
Some that really resonated:
Embrace take-home projects as an opportunity to demonstrate your skills and thought process. Pick a medium you're comfortable with, show your work, and try to address the underlying questions behind the project.
Prove you can do the job: Produce proof of work, aka evidence that you have done it through side projects and activities that showcase your abilities, like starting a newsletter or hosting events. This helps establish credibility.
Embrace being hands-on: You'll likely need to execute on strategy yourself rather than only doing high-level thinking. Show you can take ideas to reality with little support.
