The Eight Secrets To A Fairly Fulfilled Life
Oliver Burkeman shares a lot of great life advice. In his last column in The Guardian, he puts forth refreshing thoughts. Here are the top few I loved:

  • There will always be too much to do – and this realisation is liberating. Doing it all is impossible, choose to invest your time on things that matter.

  • When stumped by a life choice, choose “enlargement” over happiness. Choose the decision that will help you to grow, since we usually are bad at predicting what makes us happy.

  • The capacity to tolerate minor discomfort is a superpower. Pushing yourself a little (even if it brings mild irritation, stress or boredom) brings you immense rewards.

  • Know when to move on. Sometimes, something you’re passionate about will reach its natural end - it’s ok to move on to what’s next.

What It’s Like To Remember Every Face You’ve Ever Seen
Interesting piece by Psyche on the lives of super-recognisers who possess the ability to remember faces over long stretches of time. I cracked up when the super-recognisers mentioned that their skills have the potential to make people feel uncomfortable.

How To Hire Low Experience, High Potential People
Finding diamonds in the rough is not easy, but the impact of doing so is huge. Here are some useful tips on how to identify people with high potential.

  • Look for resourcefulness & follow-through. Ask questions about their best “X”. If it's not good, you know that their best isn't good enough.

  • Highlight challenges in the upcoming role and check out their responses. High-potential people are usually excited about the challenge and want to make an impact.

  • Check that they have coachability: are self-aware enough about their own performance, and willing to take feedback. Case studies, take-home assessments provide a wonderful chance to watch them react in real time.

Playbooks on How To Manage A Virtual / Executive Assistant

How To Tie A Secure Shoelace Knot
How many times have you stopped during your day to re-tie an untied shoe? As an active person, I was finding myself halting every few hours. After yet another pause to rescue my laces, I wondered — am I doing this wrong? Down the rabbit hole I went in search of answers. And let me tell you, it was humbling. It turns out my go-to shoelace knot is one of the least secure options out there. I spent a few minutes watching this video and re-learning how to tie a knot. It’s been a week and I’m happy I took the time to relearn this.
